Now this is more like it. The Marvel Universe figures have transitioned over to the Avengers Assemble line and the first figure out was a lower cost (and lower quality) figure but I finally tracked down the Marvel Universe equivalent. The Gamma Fist Hulk is hopefully just the first of many Hulk’s to come. The sculpt looks great and there is plenty of articulation. While I will say again that I will the comic book character variety of the Marvel Universe line, at least we will continue to get some Hulk’s in the Avengers Assemble line since he was the best loved character from the movie. I will say that the Hulk’s neck looks a little funny when you look at him on the side but that is just a minor issue.
Remember back in the 290’s when Bruce Banner’s brain was in control of the Hulk’s body. Bruce was in control in the past but this was the first time it was this long term. It was a fun read to see how Bruce was slowly losing it over the course of the storyline. Marvel Comics used to have neat little corner box artwork (I do miss them) and for this storyline, the artwork actually changed slightly to show the gradual decline in Bruce’s control. Not sure who did this, but it is neat little animated gif showing the changes.
If you ask me about the Hulk’s movies and his appearance on the big screen, I would definitely put the first Hulk movie made in 2003 behind The Avengers and The Incredible Hulk movie. I actually liked Eric Bana as Bruce Banner but my main issues were not a very good script and being directed by someone who had never read an issue of the Incredible Hulk comic book. How can you direct a movie with a comic book character you have no experience with it? There were some good things in the movie but overall it was disappointing.
In a recent interview, Eric Bana had some comments about the movie:
“I’m proud of what it tried to do. I apologize to all those people who were so angry about it…I’m fascinated by the people who hated that movie and feel compelled to watch it again, which always blows my mind. But, yeah, it is what it is and I certainly don’t regret doing it.”
In regards to there not being a sequel:
“I think I’m so lucky it didn’t happen….One of the things I was most fearful of at the time is it being a huge success…If I had done three Hulks, it would have wiped out — and it always takes a long time to do those movies — so it would take six of my movies off the table.”
Okay, for this Playskool w-pack, the Hulk is pretty much exactly the same as the very first one released except the green is a little different and the pants are a different color. Man, I really need to work on my self-control.
The Hulk and Wolverine have always had a thing about fighting each other and I think the Hulk has some respect for the Canadian scraper. That’s why when he was paired with Wolverine in a Playskool set, he decided to put on his best suit. Of course, his suit does show a little wear and tear.
More great Incredible Hulk action figures from Playskool Heroes. It is basically the same Hulk as the first one that was released but they do different paint jobs. This Hulk is wearing a shirt that says “Hulk” on it I guess so he doesn’t forget his name.
Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, made some comments about the Hulk and what may lie ahead for him in movies. While Marvel is not ready to tell anyone what their plans are beyond the Ant-Man movie, he did mention there are 4-5 slots for movies beyond Ant-Man and they are still in the process of deciding who will fill the slots. He did say “I think we have something special with our Mark Ruffalo Banner, and we’d love to see where we could take his stories,” he said. He also mentioned that the Hulk will have “a significant role” in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Hopefully the popularity of the Hulk will drive Marvel to make another Hulk movie.
It has been awhile since I have gotten any original comic book artwork and I finally found a piece I wanted. And I was surprised when I actually was able to get. I always thought that Adam Kubert’s run on the Hulk was good as I really like his style. I saw this Wizard cover he did right about the time he started on the Hulk comic book at Heritage Auctions and was able to win it luckily. Great huge image of the Hulk’s face, love it!
This is another cool Target exclusive figure based on the single carded Hulk, this one with a darker color to him which is nice. This one comes with a cool fist that the Hulk fires when you squeeze his legs together. Go and find these figures at Target and buy them.
I have to admit that even if it is a Hulk toy that is geared only to little children, I will get them. This is a cool Hulk figure exclusive to Target that is basically a repaint of the regular version that was released everywhere except it comes with a cool action feature. You attach the disc launcher on his back and when you squeeze his legs, it causes the discs to fly out. A pretty cool little action feature. I was wondering what the spot on the Hulk’s back was for on the single carded figure and here is the reason why.
