That Sound of Awesomeness You Just Heard? Skottie Young is Doing a Rocket Raccon Comic Book

I am sure you heard the same sound as me this morning with people around you suddenly saying “awesome!” out loud. The reason? It was announced that Skottie Young will be writing and drawing a Rocket Raccoon comic book to start later this year. Here are some of the interview:

“I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with,” Young told MTV News when we spoke on the phone earlier this week. “And around this time ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too!”

Editor Sana Amanat agreed, and Young was signed up to take on Rocket as his post-“Oz” gig. Though there was no specific mandate to follow the path of the movie — and in fact, Young had no idea what the character will be like on screen — once he saw the trailer, he got a sense that things were right in line between the comic and movie versions of the character.

The official solicitation from Marvel:

Rocket Raccoon
Written & drawn by Skottie Young

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now–a raccoon on the run?! ( I’m sorry, I’m sorry, a “formidable-and-expert-Guardian” on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man–and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We’ll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we’ve been waiting decades for.

Can’t wait for this comic book! Skottie is a perfect match for Rocket’s irrelevant attitude.

First Appearance of Wolverine in Incredible Hulk #180 Original Artwork Up for Auction

Who is that little runt in the yellow costume with the Canadian accent? Wolverine of course and his very first appearance was at the very end of Incredible Hulk #180 in the last panel. His first full issue was of course Incredible Hulk #181. The artwork to that last page in 180 has not been seen for years but it has suddenly surfaced and will be up for auction at Heritage Auctions this coming May. The page is illustrated by Herb Trimpe, with inks by Jack Abel and hand-lettering by Artie Simek, based on a script by Len Wein, and shows the Canadian mutant Wolverine stepping out of the woods to intrude on a battle between the Hulk and the Wendigo. Although the owner of the page remains anonymous, Heritage Auctions says Herb Trimpe gave the collector the page in 1983. If you look closely at the page, you’ll see a personal message from Trimpe to, assumedly, the buyer, saying “Ben – Best wishes. Herb Trimpe”. The auction house says that “the majority” of the proceeds after taxes will be donated by the owner to the Hero Initiative, a not-for-profit comics creator support organization. Here is a look at the auction page at Heritage: Hulk 180 artwork. What do you think it will end up going for?

Help Bill Mantlo, Creator of Rocket Raccoon

I am sure by now you have watched the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy about 5 times already and the star of the trailer is of course Rocket Raccoon. Rocket was created by Marvel writer Bill Mantlo who was also a writer on the Incredible Hulk comic book. In fact, Bill wrote some stories that were used as the basis for some Peter David Hulk stories and he also inspired Greg Pak, who wrote the Planet Hulk storyine. What most people don’t know is that Bill was hit by a car while roller blading in 1992 and has permanent brain damage. It costs a lot of money for his family to care for him and now you can do your part to help him and also get a cool t-shirt in the process. Go to this link and buy this t-shirt and part of the money will go to Bill’s family to help pay for medical expenses: Help Bill Mantlo

More Incredible Hulk Toy Fair 2014 News

You knew there had to be more Incredible Hulk news coming out of Toy Fair 2014, right?

Minimates: The Incredible Hulk Minimates train keeps on running! Minimates is going to have another Best of Series and it will include a Bruce Banner that you can turn into a Grey Hulk!

Marvel Battle Mashers: Standing at around 5-6ish inches tall, the upcoming Marvel Battle Masters figures are bulky versions of some of the most popular Avengers and X-Men (Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America). The toys have built-in action features when played with solo, but they also come with handles that fans can mount them on and control via a trigger. This basically prevents users from bashing their friends’ hands when all they really want is to bash a rival figure.

On top of the physical battle tech, these figures will also be able to activate special features within Hasbro’s upcoming Battle Masters app on iOS (and potentially other platforms). They’re an action figure, they’re a physical game, they’re a video game — they’re masters of battling toy limitations, it seems.

Individual Battle Masters will go for $15 a pop when they arrive later this year, with a special Iron Man/Hulk two-pack arriving for $25.

Is the First 10 Minutes of the Upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron Movie Centered on the Hulk?

Over at, they got a report from the Johannesburg set of the filming of the Avengers 2 Age of Ultron movie sequel. And it seems that the first ten minutes of the movie may focus on the Hulk:

According to their source named Irfaan Ebrahim Hulk is the main focas of the first 10 minutes of the film:

“I could see some sort of action scene where Hulk was battling someone but not too sure who was it. I could make it out clearly because they use a huge green head whenever they’re filming Hulk scenes. …They used a guy dressed normally but had on a backpack with 2 iron poles holding up hulk’s chest upwards and then he was doing whatever he had to do… scaring the people. By the looks of it, Hulk will probably play a major role in the Johannesburg shoot.”

He also goes onto say that many extras flee from the hulk, cars are smashed …while all of this takes place in the opening action sequence of the film.

Well, at least Marvel knows to lead with their strength, namely have the Hulk start of the movie.

Even More Planet Hulk Movie Hints from Lego Guardians of the Galaxy Set

The first Lego set for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie was sneaked and it included the following description:

“The Milano Spaceship Rescue” set, with 665 pieces priced at $74.99. In addition to the brick version of the Guardians’ starship Milano from the movie, the pack includes mini-figs of three heroes — Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt in the film),Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) — as well as an alien Sakaaran Soldier and the villain Ronan the Accuser(Lee Pace).

Did you notice anything there? Yes, the mention of an alien Sakaaran soldier. Hundreds of alien species that Marvel has introduced in over 50 years and here they go using a Sakaaran soldier in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Just a coincidence? Marvel has to be planting little hints about a Planet Hulk movie, why else would they keep putting aliens from the Hulk storyline in a movie and try to put them in a movie, like in the second Thor. Planet Hulk the movie, oh yes it will be happening.
