Alternative Art to the Incredible Hulk vs Superman Battle from the Marvel vs DC Limited Series from 1996

Back in 1996, Marvel and DC were actually getting along and they decided to have a cross-over between the two universes and to let the fans decide on who would win battles between heroes in each universe. It wasn’t based on actual power levels or weaknesses or anything like that, it was just dependent on which character had the most fans who would vote. In the book, the Hulk of course fought Superman. Well, there are more Superman fans out there than Hulk fans so of course Superman won the battle. The artist, Claudio Castellini, actually created two pages, one where each hero won, so that they were prepared for the comic book issue prior to the voting. Marvel mainstay Tom Brevoorts has a tumblr page where he shows vintage artwork and ads from Marvel called The Marvel Age of Comics. Of course we all know that the Hulk would have won the battle if it was just written like it should be have been. Take a look at the two original art pages that were made for the book.

  1. Wow – these pages are just awesome, Steve! You’re right – the Hulk should have won… but we say that about everything, don’t we?
