Not a lot of Hulk toy related news coming out of Toyfair this year so far but there have been a few items. Hasbro is releasing a number of Iron Man armor sets and one of them includes a Hulkbuster and Hulk set. The Hulk looks to be the same as the Wal-Mart exclusive Avengers Hulk figure from a few years ago with a new face sculpt and paint job. Looks like they are trying to present when he was under the influence of the Scarlet Witch for the Avengers movie. This set will be exclusive to Target. Lego also released some images for sets related to the upcoming Avengers movie this year. There will be a set of a Hulkbuster and Bruce Banner figure. Not sure if the Hulkbuster is the exact same as the one from a previous set. There is also going to be a large Hulkbuster with lots of stuff to go with it.
Toyfair 2018 is in full swing and the new toy announcements are coming out! Funko has announced a Amadeus Cho as the Hulk POP figure as part of their Gamerverse line of POP figures. I am assuming this means that Cho Hulk is part of some game from Marvel. Not a fan of the Cho Hulk in the comic book at all but I will end up getting this just because it is Hulk related. Looks like this will be coming out in May.
I’ve been collecting Incredible Hulk comic books for the past 40+ years but there was a short dark period when I first started college that I stopped buying comic books. Once I came to my senses, I went to the local comic shop in town and bought the issues I missed. Those were the first issues by Dale Keown and I was blown away by the amazing new artist that was drawing my favorite comic book character. Needless to say, I was pulled back into the book and never looked back. Dale quickly became one of my favorite artists of all time, he put some much immensity to the Hulk. I was lucky enough to get a great page of original artwork from his run but I have always wanted a commission from him, especially since I started my Planet Hulk sketch book eight years ago. Dale doesn’t do a lot of conventions so when I saw he was going to be at Fan Expo in Toronto last year, I knew I had to go. My fellow gamma-bro Jade Giant and I drove up and managed to spend a weekend talking with Dale and watching him draw some really cool sketches. He was cool enough to do this INCREDIBLE Planet Hulk sketch in my book and this is pretty much a bucket item checked off my list. There is so much detail and work is the piece, I can look at it for hours. Can’t thank Dale enough for doing the piece! Also a huge thanks to his rep Gin Kung for helping make this happen. Check out Gin’s website at www.comicparadise.ca and see all the great artists along with Dale that he reps.
A third version of the Red Hulk character has been released in Minimates form. Never really cared for the character in the comic books but I am good with picking up another Hulk-based Hulk figure. Go out to your local Walgreens and track this figure down. With this wave, there is also a Captain America Hulkbuster armor but I just couldn’t get myself to buy that version since it seems like they have just made that one up.
For those of you who don’t play it, Marvel Champions is a fighting style app-based game. Based on a tweet by the Marvel Champions twitter feed, it looks like they are finally coming out with a Gladiator Hulk. They posted: “And now, I give you your Incredible, Astonishingly Savage…” and had the attached picture. They came out with some characters when the Thor Ragnaorok movie came out and I was curious as why they wouldn’t come out with the Hulk given his unique style. Really hoping to get the Gladiator Hulk for my roster.
Happy 82nd birthday to Sal Buscema, whom I consider to be the definitive Hulk artist of all time. There have been a number of really good Hulk artists but for me, Sal’s Hulk, especially during his early run on the book, will always be the Hulk I see in my mind. He knew just how to draw him to look massive. Even though he drew him that large, he was still able to capture emotion and feelings in the Hulk. Thanks for helping shape my childhood Sal!
Can’t get enough Sal Buscema original Hulk artwork. Was lucky enough to pick up another page from his earlier run on the book, namely issue 238, page 6. Great pencils by Sal with inks by Jack Abel. I will never be able to afford the classic cover from this issue but at least I can get the scene from inside the book. Happy to have this in my collection.

Yep, yet another Gladiator Hulk toy from the Thor Ragnarok drops out of nowhere. Looks like there will be another Gladiator Hulk bobblehead in the cute style. The cost is $10.99 and it won’t be available til May 2018. Not sure who the manufacturer is or anything. If you want to pre-order, you can go here: Hulk Bobblehead
